Newcastle are understood to have agreed a £10million fee with Crystal Palace for Dwight Gayle, who is in talks with Magpies officials.
Having suffered relegation from the top flight last season, Newcastle are spending big in an attempt to get back at the first time of asking and Gayle has been on their summer wishlist.
The former Peterborough frontman only signed a new contract with Palace in April of this year but, despite finishing the season strongly, it looks like he will be allowed to leave.
Gayle, who turned down a move to Bristol City last season, is now thrashing out personal terms with Championship outfit, with the move expected to be confirmed before the weekend.
It’s also believed that Andros Townsend could be heading in the opposite direction, with Alan Pardew trying to thrash out a deal for the England international winger.
