Stoke boss Mark Hughes is hoping to end his search for a defender by snapping up Bruno Martins Indi from Porto, reports claim.
Hughes had been hoping to wrap up a deal for Mamadou Sakho from Liverpool, but after the defender turned his back on a move to the bet365 Stadium, the Potters boss quickly turned to Indi.
The 24-year-old Dutch international is now due to undergo a medical with the club today before putting pen-to-paper on a deal well before tonight’s 11pm deadline.
Liverpool had also been linked with a move for Indi had Sakho left Anfield, but it would appear that Stoke now have a free run at the central defender.
The arrival of Indi will allow Stoke defender Phillip Wollscheid to return to his native Germany before the window closes, with Wolfsburg keen to do a deal.
Hughes is also in the hunt for a new striker and faces a race against time to get one on board, with Wilfried Bony of Manchester City said to be his number one target.
