Ron Atkinson believes both David Moyes and Nigel Pearson would be ideal managerial candidates to replace Remi Garde at Aston Villa.
The 77-year-old, who managed Villa to League Cup success in 1994 during his two-year stint at Villa Park, has been looking at the current situation at the club as they look set to be relegated to the Championship this season.
Current boss Garde appears set to depart Villa at some point with the club already looking to bring in a manager who can help launch a promotion push next term for an immediate return to the Premier League.
Former Everton and Manchester United boss Moyes, who is out of work after departing Real Sociedad earlier in the season and Pearson, who has not worked since being axed at Leicester last summer, are both in contention.
And Atkinson insists both men would be perfect for the Villans.
He told the Express & Star: “They are what I would call proper managers and that is what Villa need now.
“Both of them would be a good fit. You need someone who can find players and if you look at MoyesÂ’ record at Everton, he brought in the likes of Phil Jagielka, Seamus Coleman, Leighton Baines and many more.”
