Reports claim Stoke boss Mark Hughes is stepping up his interest in Robin van Persie and wants to pair him with Saido Berahino.
The former Manchester United striker is set to leave Turkish side Fenerbahce this summer and the Potters are keen to bring him to the Bet365 Stadium for a fee in the region of £4million.
The Dutchman’s wages always appeared to be a sticking point, but reports now claim he is willing to take a huge pay cut to complete a return to the Premier League.
Middlesbrough and West Ham are also said to be in the hunt, but Stoke are frontrunners for Van Persie’s signature and hope to push through a deal sooner rather than later.
Stoke are also pushing on with a deal for Berahino, but Hughes wants both the West Brom striker and Van Persie to bolster his attack for next season.
Berahino is set to leave West Brom in a £20million deal and a decision on whether he joins Stoke or Crystal Palace will be made this week.
