Done Deal: Aston Villa complete £15m Jonathan Kodjia signing

“He is a proven goalscorer and hopefully he’ll play an important part in what we hope will be a successful season for the Club.”

Kodjia has signed a four-year deal with the club.

City operating officer Mark Ashton said the club didn’t want to lose the Ivory Coast striker, 26, but couldn’t resist Villa’s mega offer.

“We’ve continually told Jonathan that we don’t want him to go, but recently he’s made it clear that he’s aware of the interest of other clubs and that he wanted to leave.

“After lengthy discussions with (head coach) Lee Johnson, the board and importantly (majority shareholder) Steve Lansdown, we felt that if we got the right offer we would allow him to leave.”
