Dietmar Hamann believes Arsenal should turn to Diego Simeone should they look to replace Arsene Wenger this summer.
Simeone guided Atletico Madrid to their second Champions League final in three years and only the third time in their history when they knocked out Bayern Munich on Tuesday night on away goals.
Critics have suggested Simeone’s robust approach would not suit Arsenal’s pretty footballing style but Hamman insists the contrast in philosophies between the two is exactly why the Argentine is the perfect choice for the Gunners.
“He should be the most sought-after coach in the world,” Hamann told Colin Murray.
“I think his track record is as good as any and this includes [Jose] Mourinho, [Pep] Guardiola, anyone.
“What he has done at Atletico is as good as anyone’s out there. When people say ‘is he a manager for Arsenal? Can he manage Arsenal?’ I would say the thing that Arsenal lack is exactly what Atletico’s strength is.
“If I was Arsenal, I’d be on the way to Madrid and saying ‘Diego, you win the Champions League and the day after you’re ours.”
