Norwich City midfielder Graham Dorrans is being lined up to be Roberto Di Matteo’s first signing at Villa Park.
The Scotland international worked with the Italian at The Hawthorns in 2009-10 and was a key cog in the Baggies promotion campaign.
Dorrans joined Norwich on a two-year contract last year after helping them to promotion via the play-offs as a loan player.
But the 29-year-old struggled to keep his place in Alex NeilÂ’s starting line-up during the second half of the season and could be open to a fresh start.
Norwich wanted to retain Dorrans after their own relegation was confirmed and believe he is an ideal squad member as they plot their own route back to the Premier League.
Di Matteo’s new assistant boss Steve Clarke has also worked with Dorrans at The Hawthorns and could also help in persuading the player to make the switch.
