Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal says he will not give up on Memphis Depay and believes he can still be a star at Old Trafford.
Depay has struggled to make the impact expected of him since arriving from PSV Eindhoven in the summer and has often been criticised for his performances.
However the winger’s ability was there for everyone to see against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League on Thursday night, and Van Gaal is now hoping he can take confidence from that performance and kick on.
United face Arsenal in the Premier League today and Van Gaal believes it is the perfect stage for the youngster to showcase his talents once again.
“I will not give up on Depay,” said Van Gaal. “I don’t give up on Adnan Januzaj either, because I Ârecognise their quality and their talents. But they have to cope with the Premier League and we help them every day to develop themselves so they can cope with the Premier League.
“There are moments when Memphis is good, but there are also moments when he is not so consistent.
“He has to take care of this consistency by making the right choices. Now, Memphis has to show it against Arsenal because Arsenal are another level.”
