Demba Ba suffers horrific leg-break in Chinese Super League derby match

Former Chelsea and Newcastle striker Demba Ba has suffered a horrific leg-break in the Shanghai derby in the Chinese Super League.

Playing for Shanghai Shenhua in their local clash against rivals Shanghai SIPG, the Senegal international appears to have snapped the lower half of his right leg following a challenge with a SIPG defender.

There was nothing malicious to the challenge but after a quick tangle of legs, Ba’s leg appears to turn in a different direction to his body as he falls to the ground.

The Senegalese frontman has become a firm favourite among fans and is the top goal scorer in the Chinese Super League so far.

Ba had started the season in excellent form, scoring 14 goals in 18 appearances, but his campaign for this year will be over following such a shocking leg-break.

The full extent of the injury is yet to be known but it’s likely the player will be out of the game for at least the next six months.
