West Ham’s attempts to cover the loss of Aaron Cresswell through injury by signing Norwich City’s Martin Olsson have failed.
Cresswell was hurt in a late challenge during the club’s pre-season trip to Austria and the former Ipswich Town defender is expected to miss up to six months of the upcoming campaign.
Hammers boss Slaven Bilic attempted to cope with the loss of Creswell by signing Norwich’s Olsson for £3m but his bid has been turned down by Alex Neil.
The Hammers will have to up their offer for the 28-year-old if they want to seal his signature while, as an alternative, they have also approached Arsenal about taking Kieran Gibbs on a season-long loan – but that too has been rejected.
