Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is being linked with a summer move for Lyon defender Samuel Umtiti, but faces competition.
The 22-year-old has also been linked with a move to runaway French champions Paris Saint-Germain, but Lyon would prefer him to move elsewhere rather than strengthen the already dominant champions.
The Cameroon-born central defender has attracted interest from across Europe, but Spurs hope they can nip in and land him ahead of others although there could be a stumbling block with Lyon over the move.
Their president Jean-Michel Aulas does not want the transfer to be drawn out like the sale of Hugo Lloris to Spurs back in 2012.
Lyon want £20m for the player and, with so many interested parties, Aulas is unlikely to be bartered down to a lower figure.
