The Argentine’s future at White Hart Lane looked bleak last week when he was left out of the club’s pre-season trip to Australia with manager Mauricio Pochettino later confirming Fazio was on the list of players that could leave Spurs.

Roma, who saw defender Mario Rui suffer an injury in training this week, are looking to secure some cover and have agreed personal terms with the ex-Sevilla star, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The Serie A club want Fazio on loan for a season, but Spurs are understood to be thinking of holding onto the 29-year-old as cover for Jan Vertonghen, who is also injured at the moment.

However, the report does still state that it looks likely Fazio will make the move.

The defender spent the second half of last season on loan at former club Sevilla but was sent off 25 minutes into his second debut for the club and struggled to find his form, playing just six times.
