Arsenal have failed with their opening bid for Bolton defender Rob Holding and will have to go as high as £7million to complete a deal.
The Gunners are leading Celtic, Everton and Bournemouth in the race to sign the talented 20-year-old, but they have so far been unable to agree a fee with the Trotters.
Reports over the weekend suggested Bolton wanted £10million for their starlet, and although such a figure appears to be wide of the mark, Bolton will not let him go on the cheap.
Arsenal are thought to have offered Bolton an initial £2million for the player, who is set for a call up to the England under-21s, but that figure could rise to £5million with bonuses.
Bolton have knocked back that figure, and with so much interest in their prized asset, they are in no rush to cash in and will hold fire to get the figure they want.
