Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez has been singing the praises of Siem de Jong, who looks certain to start against Norwich City.
The Dutchman has had a tough time on the injury front since arriving at St James’ Park, but even when fit their seemed to be a reluctance from former boss Steve McClaren to start him.
However Benitez has been impressed by what he has seen from De Jong so far, and after he impressed off the bench in the last two games, he looks certain to start against the Canaries.
Benitez has called on his players to hold their nerve during the relegation run-in and he believes De Jong has got what it takes to handle the pressure.
“For sure because he is a good player, he has quality and experience,” Benitez revealed. “At this time, you need experience, you need people that can understand the game and they can play the game under pressure.
“That is the most difficult thing, to play the game under pressure. Some players are good players but struggle under pressure, but he will be important for the rest of the season.”
