DAVID WOODS COLUMN: Jack Wilshere’s timely return, do Newcastle realise their situation?

As Starsport revealed yesterday, the Arsenal and England star makes his eagerly-awaited comeback tonight.

After an absence of exactly 300 days Wilshere will run out for the Gunners’ academy team against Newcastle.

But once again Wilshere is under intense scrutiny for, basically, being a human being.

A check on his horrible injury record shows Wilshere has had 25 injury setbacks in his career. That’s one more than the number of years he’s been on this planet.

Critics, are once again questioning his attitude and mentality after he was splashed across the front pages after being questioned by police over an altercation at a West End nightclub, after he went out with his girlfriend and pals.

But consider what Wilshere has had to go through in his young life, all those injuries – the latest one being a broken left fibula – all those ankle problems, both left and right, all that pain, all those false dawns as he bids to make a comeback.
