David Moyes reveals he snubbed Sunderland last season: I didn’t think they could stay up

“I’ve had opportunities to go abroad, but I wanted to come back to the Premier League now.

“I think the Premier League has an exciting group of managers and I wanted to be in among that. I wanted to compete against them.”

Moyes believes owner Ellis Short will give him time to transform Sunderland despite being the club’s sixth manager in five years.

“We turned Everton from being a club at the bottom into being a club at the top, but that was a journey that took 10 years and football has become less patient since that time,” he said.

“Managers don’t get much chance to put a vision in place and to try and move it on, but if there was ever one club that needs that, it’s this club.”
