David Moyes hoping to shock Sunderland owner Ellis Short: We’ll stay away from drop zone

“Let’s see if I can shock him and get us up the league”

He said: “No, I see it as being the right opportunity at the right time. Sam kept them up, which was great because it gives me a chance to pick up where he left off.

“I see it being Sunderland where I can manage at the very top again. I think, with the owner, maybe we don’t know what he’d really do if we did well. He’s never really seen his team be successful.

“So let’s see if I can shock him and get us up the league. Let’s see if I can shock him into doing something which makes him think, ‘wow’.

“He’s put a lot of money into the club.”

Moyes, who feels he was unfairly treated by United, believes ex-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is the right man to replace Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.
