Atletico Madrid have almost given up hope of trying to re-sign Chelsea striker Diego Costa in the summer.
Costa’s future at Stamford Bridge, along with many of his team-mates, is currently up in the air after a poor season on the pitch, talk of unrest among the players, while Antonio Conte is set to take charge next season.
Costa spent four years with Atletico before moving to west London in 2014 and excelled in his first campaign in the Premier League, but he has not been so prolific this season with rumours of a fall-out with Jose Mourinho.
Whether or not the Spain international wants to leave only time will tell, but Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo believes it would be tough to get a deal done to take him back to the Vicente Calderon.
“He has a contract with Chelsea,” he told Al Primer Toque Onda Cero. “There are many times when, as much as a I want a player, there is a contract.
“To negotiate with Chelsea can be really tough, almost impossible.”
