Aston Villa are showing interest in Bolton Wanderers’ exciting young striker Zach Clough and could make a move in the summer.
Villa director of recruitment Paddy Riley watched the 20-year-old forward in action on Tuesday night at St Andrew’s when Bolton lost 1-0 to Birmingham City.
Bolton accepted a reported £2million bid from Bristol City in the January transfer window as they sought to raise funds to solve their financial plight.
But Clough turned down the move after travelling south for talks with Bristol City officials.
He has scored four Championship goals in 13 starts for the struggling Lancashire club this season and managed five in six last term.
Villa now appear to be targeting young Championship players in a bid to equip their manager with the type of squad that could potentially bounce straight back up if they do drop from the Premier League this season.
