Burnley look set to pip Crystal Palace to the services of Brighton midfielder Dale Stephens after agreeing a fee of £7million.
The Clarets are desperate to bolster their midfield after returning to the Premier League and are reported to have failed with at least two bids to sign the Bolton-born star.
Eagles boss Alan Pardew is also known to be in the hunt for Stephens but he will have to move quickly as reports are rife that Burnley are closing in on a deal.
Brighton have reluctantly accepted a £7million offer from the Clarets, with reports claiming the player will undergo a medical and discuss personal terms in the coming days.
The deal has yet to be rubberstamped, and while that remains the case, the door is still ajar for Palace to launch their own bid and try and hijack the deal.
However it is thought Stephens may still prefer Burnley as it would give him the chance to return to his native north west.
