Coleman will lead Wales’ bid to reach Russia after the Football Association of Wales turned down an approach from Hull for the 46-year-old.
The former Fulham manager’s stock has never been higher after a memorable summer in France, yet he believes he could be as few as five games from the sack if he cannot deliver a successful World Cup campaign.
He said: “We have got to be in the mix after the first five games.
“If the campaign doesn’t go great and we sit down with our chief executive Jonathan [Ford] and president Dai Griffiths the president and they could say, ‘We can’t get to where we need to be, maybe it’s a chance for someone else’.”
Squad: Hennessey, Ward, O Williams; Davies, Chester, Collins, Gunter, Richards, Taylor, Dummett, A Williams; Allen, Edwards, King, Ledley, Huws, Lawrence, G Williams; Bale, Church, Cotterill, Robson-Kanu, Vokes.
