A Chinese-led consortium is thought to be close to agreeing a deal to buy relegated Aston Villa for around £60million.

Current Villa owner, American Randy Lerner, has been trying to sell the West Midlands outfit since 2014 and is reportedly now close to striking a deal with an unnamed businessman or group from China.

Villa endured a miserable Premier League campaign and were relegated to the Championship, finishing bottom of the table with just 17 points on the board.

The club’s fans are desperate for Lerner, who took over 10 years ago, to relinquish control and it is claimed a deal could even go through in the next week or so.

If the sale happens it is then expected that a new manager will be appointed soon after, with former Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson and ex-Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion chief Roberto Di Matteo the leading candidates following Remi Garde’s sacking in March.
