Chelsea’s US international defender Matt Miazga joined Vitesse Arnhem on Wednesday after Espanyol couldn’t complete paperwork on time.
The 21-year-old centre-back, signed from the New York Red Bulls in January for a reported £3.5m, was told he was not in boss Antonio Conte’s plans this term.
Miazga made two Premier League appearances under Guus Hiddink last season but didn’t make any of the Blues’ matchday squads in their first four league and cup fixtures.
Espanyol tried to complete a season-long loan deal for him on transfer deadline day but failed to lodge the necessary papers on time, leaving Chelsea to hastily arrange a different move.
Miazga will now link up with two other Chelsea loanees – Brazilian midfielder Nathan and ex-England Under-21 international Lewis Baker – at Eredivisie outfit Vitesse.
