Chelsea will reignite their pursuit of AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli in January, according to reports in Italy.
Blues boss Antonio Conte attempted to land his compatriot during the summer but missed out, eventually signing David Luiz instead.
But AC Milan are bracing themselves for more interest from Stamford Bridge as soon as the transfer window reopens in the New Year.
And, according to Quotidiano Sportivo, Chelsea are lining up a £43million offer for the 21-year-old, which could be enough to tempt them to cash in.
The young Rome-born defender has made 83 Serie A appearances across his time at Roma, Sampdoria and now Milan, where he is under contract until 2020.
But the San Siro club, who paid £21.5m to land him in August 2015, may decide to double their money on a player who arrived less than 18 months ago and is still largely unproven.
