Chelsea news: Paris Saint-Germain made late bid to include Diego Costa in David Luiz deadline-day move

Paris Saint-Germain made a late move to sign Diego Costa from Chelsea during the summer transfer window, only to be denied by Antonio Conte.

The Blues signed David Luiz for £32m on deadline day, two years after he left the club for the Ligue 1 champions for £50m.

Conte was desperate to bring in more defensive cover but saw moves for Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, AC Milan’s Alessio Romagnoli and Juventus’ Leonardo Bonucci all end in disappointment before opting to bring Luiz back to Stamford Bridge.

However, France Football have revealed that negotiations were held up by PSG ambitiously trying to add Costa to the deal with the Spaniard moving to the Parc des Princes as part of a straight swap deal.

The French giants lost their talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer as the Swede joined Manchester United on a free transfer and PSG boss Unai Emery was keen to add another recognised striker to his star-studded squad.

Costa had been linked with a move back to Atletico Madrid after a disappointing second season in the Premier League as Conte looked to bring in another striker.

The signing of Michy Batshuayi for £34m gave PSG hope they could snatch Costa as the transfer window went into its final few hours but Conte stepped in to veto the move.

Costa has started the season is stunning form, scoring five goals in five games for the Blues as well as two in one for the Spanish national team.
