Chelsea have tabled a £35million bid for AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli, according to reports.
New Blues boss Antonio Conte is desperate to bring in a centre-back before the transfer window closes next month.
Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly has been on the Italian’s radar but the Serie A side are demanding in excess of £50m to part with the player and Chelsea’s interest has cooled.
Now Conte is keen to do a deal for Milan’s Romagnoli.
Chelsea are understood to have had an initial £25m bid for the 21-year-old rejected earlier this week but have now made a new and improved offer worth £35m, including add-ons.
Milan are keen to keep hold of Romagnoli, who only arrived from Roma a year ago and impressed during his 34 Serie A outings last term.
But Chelsea hope their big offer fo the youngster convinces the club to sell up this summer.
