Chelsea boss Antonio Conte plots £140m transfer splurge: Three key targets identified

The Italian, the eighth permanent manager to take over at Chelsea in the Roman Abramovich era, insisted tonight that he was not afraid of the sack, but more important to him was stamping his passion and identity on Stamford Bridge.

Conte described taking over at Chelsea, where he began work on Wednesday after a break after taking Italy to the quarter-finals of Euro 2016, as easier than when he took over at Juventus in 2011.

Chelsea have so far this summer signed only Belgium striker Michy Batshuayi for £32 million from Marseille.
