Championship Round-Up: Steve Bruce’s first win at Villa, Leeds draw, Brighton beat Wolves

Reading 1 Aston Villa 2 – Ian Baker

ASTON VILLA’S luck finally changed last night after Jordan Ayew’s late penalty gave boss Steve Bruce his first win since taking over.

Bruce, in only his second game at the club, was dealt a blow when Jack Grealish was handed a three-match FA ban before the game after TV pictures spotted his stamp on Wolves’ Conor Coady on Saturday.

However, things looked on the up when Reading star Tyler Blackett diverted the ball into his own net seven minutes before half-time following a poor effort by Jonathan Kodjia.

The Royals levelled on 54 minutes when, following Aly Cissokho’s foul on Garath McCleary in the area, Yann Kermorgant headed home after Danny Williams had missed from the spot.

But in the 90th minute, Ayew kept his cool to score once Liam Moore had brought him down in the 18-yard box.
