Championship round-up: Newcastle finally win and Shane Duffy has a night to forget

Newcastle picked up their first Championship win of the season with a 4-1 victory at home to Reading.

After losing their two initial games to Fulham and Huddersfield Town, Isaac Hayden gave the Magpies the lead before Gareth McCleary equalised from the penalty spot.

Summer signing Matt Ritchie restored the lead with a penalty of his own and fellow new arrival Dwight Gayle grabbed the third and fourth, the first of which a great free kick that nestled into the top corner.

At the Cardiff City Stadium Shane Duffy had a night to forget after he scored two own goals and got sent off as Blackburn lost 2-1 to the Bluebirds.

It continues a torrid few days for the Northern Irishman, who scored another own goal in the 3-0 defeat to Wigan on the weekend.

Danny Graham bundled home a response 13 minutes from time but that was all Rovers could muster as Duffy picked up his second yellow card in stoppage time and they remain rock bottom of the Championship with three defeats from three.

Barnsley inflicted a first defeat of the season upon QPR with a 3-2 at Oakwell thanks to a late Josh Scowen winner.

Barnsley took an early lead through Marley Watkins before penalties from Tjaronn Chery and Sebastian Polter put Rangers ahead.

Conor Hourihane grabbed an equaliser with just over ten minutes remaining before Scowen claimed all three points for the hosts with a left-footed shot high into the centre of the goal.
