Some key information from Tuesday’s action in the Sky Bet Championship…
Reading 1-2 Aston Villa
Jordan Ayew’s 90th-minute penalty gave Steve Bruce his first win as Aston Villa manager.
Summer signing Jonathan Kodjia opened the scoring at the Madejski before Reading got back on level terms, after Danny Williams’ penalty was saved and Yann Kermorgant fired home the rebound.
As the game looked to be heading for a draw, Ghanaian forward Ayew was fouled in the box and he stepped up to coolly convert the late winner in Bruce’s second match in charge of the Villans.
Barnsley 0-2 Newcastle
Dwight Gayle’s second-half double sent Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle back to the Championship’s summit.
The summer signing from Crystal Palace now has 11 for the season, with his goals coming in the 49th and 68th minute, the latter arriving after rounding goalkeeper Adam Davies.
Fulham 2-2 Norwich
Newcastle’s win means Norwich City drop to second after the Canaries were held at Craven Cottage.
They are now one point behind the Magpies after surrendering a two-goal lead.
Graham Dorrans put them ahead with a penalty on 17 minutes before adding another from the spot shortly before the break.
Stefan Johansen and Chris Martin netted twice in 11 second-half minutes to help Slavisa Jokanovic’s side to their fifth draw in their last ten league matches.
Blackburn 2-1 Nottingham Forest
Owen Coyle’s Blackburn moved out of the relegation zone after seeing off ten-man Forest at Ewood Park.
Sam Gallagher, on loan from Southampton, scored twice in the second half. They saw out the majority of the last 45 before Damien Perquis pulled one back two minutes into added time. Two minutes later, with the game virtually over, Hildeberto Pereira was shown his second yellow card.
