Championship news: Aston Villa submit bid for Fulham striker Ross McCormack

2 Aug

Aston Villa have launched a bid for prolific Fulham striker Ross McCormack, it is understood.

The Scotland international, now 29, cost Fulham £11million when they signed him from Leeds in July 2014. Villa are reportedly prepared to part with £12m to entice him away from Craven Cottage, but there are some suggestions the Londoners are holding out for £15m.

McCormack has attracted attention from the relegated club – now bankrolled by Chinese owner Tony Xia and managed by Roberto Di Matteo – with his 21-goal for Fulham haul last term.

He scored 17 times in the Championship in his first season with the Cottagers having been Leeds’ top scorer in the 2013-14 campaign with 28 goals.

The Glaswegian, who made his name in Scotland with Motherwell before joining Cardiff in 2008, has already attracted interest from Norwich, who like Villa dropped out of the Premier League in May.

Di Matteo has already brought goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini, defender Tommy Elphick and midfielder Aaron Tshibola to Villa Park but is yet to sign a striker.
