Southampton could be set to make a summer offer for Huddersfield striker Nahki Wells after monitoring his progress in the Championship.
Wells is regarded as one of the biggest talents in the second tier and has impressed for the Terriers this season, scoring 17 league goals.
He has been linked with several Premier League clubs in the past 12 months and Saints could be ready to take a chance on the 25-year-old, who many believe could cut it in the top flight.
Saints’ head of recruitment Ross Wilson worked for Huddersfield until last summer, so knows Wells well as he helped sign him from Bradford in 2014.
Wilson, and other Southampton scouts, have watched Wells closely this term and hope to recommend him to boss Ronald Koeman ahead of the Dutchman possibly making an offer in the region of £4million in the summer – an amount likely to be enough to land the Bermuda international.
