There are currently 19 confirmed teams for next year’s UEFA Champions League as the majority of European seasons have now drawn to a close.
As a result, we can begin to work out which teams will be in which pots ahead of the all-important group stage draw for next season.
In the current format, pot 1 contains the Champions League holders and the champions of the top seven leagues based on the UEFA country coefficient (Spain, Germany, England, Italy, France, Russia, Portugal). As both of this year’s possible Champions League holders (Real Madrid or Juventus) have already guaranteed their place in pot one as respective champions of Spain and Italy, the champions of the country ranked eighth (Ukraine) are also seeded into Pot 1.
Pots 2, 3 and 4 contain the remaining teams, seeded based on their individual 2017 UEFA club coefficients. Not all of pots 2, 3 and 4 are certain yet as we don’t know which teams will make it through the qualifiers and this could have an effect on the seedings.
