Arsenal are ready to move for PSG forward Edinson Cavani if they fail with their attempts to sign Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy.
The Gunners appeared to be closing in on a move for Vardy after activating a release clause in the player’s contract, but a deal has stalled and Arsene Wenger may be forced to look elsewhere.
Wenger was hoping to push through a deal before Euro 2016 got underway and will now have to wait until England’s involvement is over before having any chance of completing the signing.
It has also been suggested that Vardy himself is having second thoughts over leaving the Foxes for Arsenal, and could be prepared to stay with the Premier League champions.
It means Wenger will have to switch targets and reports have claimed that Cavani will be his number one target, after the PSG striker fired home 19 goals in 32 appearances last season.
Wenger is desperate to land a new goalscorer for next season and Cavani would fit the bill perfectly if the Vardy deal collapses.
