Liverpool’s Emre Can believes he can become a midfield general and is keen to help push the team forward next season.
Can joined the Merseyside outfit in 2014 and was initially used in defence by former manager Brendan Rodgers.
However, he has proven his quality in the middle third of the pitch since the appointment of Jurgen Klopp in October and hopes to continue playing in his more natural role next season.
Some Liverpool supporters have suggested Can deserves the captaincy with Jordan Henderson’s fitness still causing some concern.
The 22-year-old admitted that he still has a lot of learning to do but believes he has the qualities to be a leader for the Anfield side.
Can said: “I want to be the one pushing the team on.
“The new midfield leader can be me, of course.
“I have played a lot of games for Liverpool and know I am still young but I have to show it on the pitch now.
“I can say I am a leader but you have to show it. Of course we have other leaders like Hendo or [James] Milner.
“We all want to do it—I am like that. I want to be the one pushing the team on.”
