CALAIS WARZONE: Riot police fire tear gas to hold back HUNDREDS of UK-bound migrants

Ukip leadership candidate Diane James said: “The Calais problem will not go away. France has to have the courage to arrest and deport. A hard-line, yes, but the only way to send a clear message.”

A census put the Jungle population at 4,480 in June but aid workers estimate it is now home to more than 9,100 with hundreds more arriving each week.

This newspaper has led the way in exposing how the migrant crisis on our doorstep has rapidly deteriorated. Last year 84,088 people were caught trying to sneak into the UK, the equivalent to 230 a day or one every six minutes.

Almost £90bn worth of UK trade passes through Calais each year.
