Chelsea defender Gary Cahill insists the squad are delighted that captain John Terry will stay with the club for another season.
The club legend admitted after his side’s last game of the season against Leicester City that he still wanted to stay after 17 years at Stamford Bridge.
The crowd within the ground paid an emotional tribute to their captain but Chelsea confirmed days later that he had agreed terms on a new 12-month deal.
Terry, who has played over 700 games for the Blues, will now fight for a first-team place under new boss Antonio Conte and fellow centre-back Cahill insists the news has come as a huge boost to the squad.
He said: “All the lads are very happy, I am sure the fans are very happy, so it is a great end to the season in that respect.
“But, for us, I just echo what everyone is thinking: A great boost for the club.
“Although it kind of dragged on for a while, it has been sorted now and we look forward to him being part of this squad like he has been for many, many years. It is fantastic news.”
