Newcastle midfielder Remy Cabella is being linked with a surprise move to Swansea despite reports Marseille have wrapped up a deal.
The 26-year-old midfielder moved to Marseille on a season-long loan last August and reports claim a permanent deal has already been agreed after the French side activated a £6.3million release clause.
There had been talk that Cabella could stay and fight for his place at St James’ Park under the leadership of Rafael Benitez if the Magpies stayed in the Premier League.
Such an outcome looks unlikely with Sunderland just needing to win one of their remaining two games to condemn both Newcastle and Norwich to the Championship.
However Cabella’s switch to Marseille is not a foregone conclusion according to reports in France, which are claiming that Swansea could offer him the chance to stay in the Premier League.
Whether Cabella would consider such an option following a miserable spell with Newcastle remains to be seen, but he could be tempted nonetheless.
