Jack Butland believes fellow Stoke stoppers Shay Given and Jakob Haugaard can’t be blamed for leaking goals.
Butland sustained a season-ending ankle injury while playing for England at the end of March and the Potters have struggled in his absence.
In the six games since Butland’s injury blow, which has ruled him out of Euro 2016 with the Three Lions, Stoke have picked up just two points and have shipped 18 goals.
Haugaard has conceded 11 goals in four-and-a-half appearances, while Given has been beaten six times in a game-and-a-half.
Butland sympathises with his fellow keepers and he believes Haugaard, 24, and 40-year-old Given should be absolved of any blame.
He told the Stoke Sentinel: “It’s tough because as a goalkeeper you want a run of games to be consistent.
“Fortunately I had that, but it was tough for the guys to come in at a stage when we really weren’t firing.
“I don’t think you can blame the guys at all. They’ve come in, worked extremely hard in a tough situation and credit to both of them for the way they’ve done.”
