Southampton have reportedly made a £5.5million bid for Romanian international midfielder Nicolae Stanciu.
Romanian news outlet Digisport claim Saints are the Premier League club behind the bid for the Steaua Bucharest midfielder – a former teammate of Florin Gardos.
The 23-year-old attacking midfielder won a penalty in Romania’s opening Euro 2016 finals match against France but otherwise failed to truly shine during the tournament.
He scored the winning goal on his international debut against Lithuania in March and currently has seven full caps and four goals for Romania.
Stanciu has the reputation of being one of the most creative players in the Romanian league and a fee of £5.5million does not seem unreasonable for a player of his quality.
There could be competition from French clubs for his signature, however, with Lorient rumoured to be interested in his services earlier this week.
