Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has suggested Middlesbrough would be wasting their time if they tried to sign Calum Chambers permanently.
Chambers joined Boro on a season-long loan deal at the end of August but is yet to make his debut, having been an unused substitute in the home defeat to Crystal Palace at the weekend.
There has been speculation the Gunners could allow the 21-year-old to depart on a permanent deal next summer following their decision to sanction a loan exit.
However, Wenger has now moved to stress he sees Chambers as someone who can make an impact at the Emirates Stadium in the years ahead, and it seems the defender won’t be sticking with Boro beyond the end of the current campaign.
“He has gone to Middlesbrough for the season and it is vital for him to play,” Wenger said, as reported by talkSPORT. “I personally think he will be a great centre-back.”
