Tony Pulis praised Darren Fletcher’s “old school” attitude after the midfielder helped West Brom to victory over Manchester United.
Pulis picked out the former Red Devils midfielder as one of the reasons why Albion were able to record their first home victory over the Old Trafford club in over 30 years.
He said: “Fletch is a great player to have. He’s old school. There aren’t many players like him.
“He has that drive, that fire in his belly that has been dampened down in the recent generations of players.
“But since he came to this club he has been a fantastic player for us on and off the pitch.”
The Baggies head coach did admit that a first-half red card for United’s Juan Mata did play a big part in the 1-0 victory.
He added: “The sending off played a part in the game. We had watched Liverpool go a man down in the earlier game and they came back to win.
“So it’s not always an advantage as they showed at the start of the second half when they upped their game. Thankfully we saw it out and we deserved it overall.”
