Sunderland forward Fabio Borini has been impressed by the attitude of the club’s youngsters during their pre-season trip to Austria.
A number of the Black Cats development squad, including recent debutants Thomas Robson, Rees Greenwood and George Honeyman, joined the first team on their trip to the continent and Italy international Borini was pleased with what he saw from the young hopefuls.
He told the club’s official website: “The lads are enjoying it but especially the young boys because it is a great experience for them to be here with us.”
“The young lads have settled well. They are really calm and they are always listening to our suggestions, so that will only make them better.”
The Black Cats returned to Wearside on Friday ahead of their first pre-season match against Hartlepool at Victoria Park on Wednesday, and Borini believes the trip to Austria was a positive experience for the entire squad.
He added: “All the boys have enjoyed it we have worked hard with triple sessions a day. It’s a good group and we enjoy each other’s company.”
Sunderland will kick-off the new Premier League campaign with an away trip to the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City on August 13, but speculation still surrounds the future of manager Sam Allardyce, who has been heavily linked with becoming the new manager of England.
