Club Brugge defender Bjorn Engels has been watched by Everton scout Andy De Smet ahead of a possible summer move.
The Belgium Under-19 international is viewed as one of his country’s rising stars and has been linked with a switch to Goodison Park in the upcoming transfer window.
Everton will no doubt be looking for a new centre-back and scout De Smet believes he is a player who would adapt well to the English game.
However, he has warned a deal remains some way off, especially considering the Blues are yet to appoint a successor to recently-sacked manager Roberto Martinez.
“He is in any case a central defender with a lot of qualities in terms of building from the back, so in that sense Bjorn’s profile fits in there,” the scout told Sports/Football Magazine.
“But just because the media say a scout is there in the stands doesn’t necessarily mean a transfer is imminent.”
The 21-year-old is under contract at Brugge until 2019 and is valued at around £4million.
