Chelsea are being linked with a move for Uruguay defender Martin Caceres, who is without a club and can move outside the window.
Blues boss Antonio Conte managed to bolster his defence just before the deadline following the additions of David Luiz and Marcos Alonso, but it has been suggested he could look to get Caceres on board as well.
The 29-year-old is free to move after being let go by Juventus following a number of off-field incidents and injury problems, and so far he has been unable to find himself a club.
A number of Italian sides have turned down the chance to take Caceres, and that could leave the door open for Conte to swoop, with the Italian confident he can get the player back on track.
Despite no Champions League football for Chelsea, it will still be a long season, and Conte is keen to have enough bodies to get them through the campaign.
