Sunderland forward Duncan Watmore has called on his team-mates to remain “positive” after a poor performance on Monday.
Everton blew the Black Cats away during the second half of their Premier League clash at the Stadium of Light courtesy of a hat-trick from Romelu Lukaku.
The Black Cats have made a poor start to life under new boss David Moyes and sit one place off the foot of the table, having picked up just one point from four games.
Tottenham are next up for the north-east outfit and Watmore insists they must remain positive with still so many games left to play.
Watmore said: “Everyone is taking responsibility; it is just frustrating because you cannot defend like that.
“We know that and we know we can do better and that is what we want to do next week – put in a much better performance.
“It is a learning curve, but we need to do it quickly.
“We needed to start well, we need more points and we will try to do that starting with Tottenham. We need to stay positive.”
