Slaven Bilic has revealed West Ham tried to sign players before Euro 2016 but is now using the tournament to further scout his targets.
The Hammers have been strongly linked with Leicester striker Jamie Vardy, Croatia winger Ante Coric and Belgium forward Christian Benteke but have so far yet to land a single player this summer.
Bilic has now revealed that their failure to sign anyone is not for the want of trying, claiming it was “impossible” to bring in some of the players he wanted in the short break between the end of the domestic season and the start of the European Championships.
The Croatian remains confident West Ham will still get their men and says he will now use their performances at Euro 2016 to analyse them further before making a final decision.
Bilic told ITV Sport: “We’ve been monitoring the players throughout the season, especially at the end of the season, so now some of those players will play [in France].
“We aren’t going to judge the players just based on their performances at the European Championships, but it will definitely help.
“It will help us to make our decision and there are definitely a few of them that we will have a detailed look at during the Euros.
“We tried to do some business before the Euros, but it was impossible; it didn’t happen.”
