Everton midfielder Muhamed Besic has admitted his performance against Arsenal in the defeat last month was his worst for many years.
The Bosnian had his worst game in an Everton shirt and was substituted at the break, a decision he completely understood, and he has not been back in the first team since.
Besic was hoping to stake his claim for a regular starting spot but knows that sort of performance will have done nothing to help his cause, but he’s not certain where the display came from.
“It was the worst game I have played in the last five years,” Besic admitted to the Liverpool Echo. “Normally, I am always one of the best on the pitch and I can’t remember when I wasn’t.
“I don’t know if this game was in my head, it was just a bad game to be fair.
“Maybe it was the injuries, I have never had it before. I went into the game, I looked slow, every second ball I was not there. The gaffer changed me at half-time and it was the right decision.”
