Stoke will have to wait for West Brom to sign a replacement for Saido Berahino before a switch to the Potteries can be confirmed.
It was reported over the weekend that a £16million fee has been agreed between the two clubs, which will see the 22-year-old former England Under-21 international move to the bet365 Stadium.
However reports are claiming that Albion boss Tony Pulis does not want to risk selling Berahino without a quality replacement and face the prospect of starting the season with Salomon Rondon, veteran Rickie Lambert and youngster Jonathan Leko following the departure of Victor Anichebe.
Despite the delay, it is expected that Berahino will make the switch to the Potteries 12 months after he was denied a move to Tottenham, who made three offers of up to £23million.
Stoke boss Mark Hughes is keen to sign another top quality striker and it looks as though he has found his man in the form of Berahino.
