Alan Pardew believes Christian Benteke is the man to solve Crystal Palace’s goalscoring problems.
The Eagles have drawn a blank in their opening two Premier League games after losing 1-0 to both West Brom and Spurs.
Benteke’s signing from Liverpool for an initial £27 million wasn’t completed in time for him to make his debut at White Hart Lane.
Palace slipped to another defeat as Victor Wanyama headed in the only goal of the game eight minutes from time.
Pardew admits he’s concerned with the start to the season with the club’s slump carrying on from the last campaign.
But the Palace boss is confident the addition of the Belgium international will turn things around.
Pardew said: “We had a great spell after half-time but, when you come to Tottenham, you have to score in that spell. That’s the issue, and the signing of Christian is to address that.
“One thing that’s always impressed me about him is he gets the goals you’d expect, but every now and then he gets a rabbit out of a hat as well.
“One moment would have changed the whole course of the game and, in that 20-minute spell, he could have done something for us.”
